Countryside
The countryside of Italy is the most beautiful in the world - and we’re not just talking about the Tuscan countryside ! Yes, the countryside of Tuscany is stunning, but did you know how many other spectacular landscapes Italy boasts beyond its cities?
In Tuscany the combination of history, culture, architecture, cuisine and scenic beauty is hard to beat anywhere in the world, and gives the region a spiritual attraction that's simply magnetic. The stunning landscape and the unhurried rural lifestyle have barely changed in over four hundred years and are the epitome of holidays in the Italian countryside. Tuscany's iconic landscape, peppered with vineyards, fields of sunflowers and olive trees is enhanced by its artistic legacy and the sumptuous cuisine and wine that lay hidden within its rolling hills. Its countryside has ancient walled towns, long lines of towering cypress trees, majestic soaring towers, fortified battlements and peaceful hilltop retreats whilst Tuscany's coast remains popular with sun-seekers for its honey-coloured beaches and stunning views of the Alpi Apuane.
The Chianti region is one of the most beautiful areas in Tuscany made famous by the red wine of the same name. It offers a landscape with green, gentle hills covered with vineyards and small stone villages. The borders of the Tuscany's popular Chianti region are not clearly defined but it generally extends over the provinces of Florence, Arezzo, Pisa and Siena, and all of the area between. There is an abundance of wineries open for wine tours and tasting and many hotels have their own wine estates and impressive cellars.
But there’s more. Italian countryside also features landlocked Umbria, famous for its black truffles. Winding roads lead to fortified battlements and impressive medieval towns perched on top of rolling hills. Its cities, Assisi and Perugia, are steeped in tradition and history and reflect a lifestyle that has not changed for centuries.
Marche, Veneto, Abruzzo, Lombardia, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria and Piemonte regions are also famous for their countryside.
